Little Earth's Family Programs resolve and promote the well-being of Little Earth families through self-sufficiency, employment and housing services that help families reduce their dependence on public assistance and stabilize their housing.
Programs include:
- Resident Advocates-resident advocates help Little Earth families access needed resources and resolve housing conflicts, such as infractions, that may otherwise cause eviction. In the past several years, the advocates have introduced pro-active preventive strategies, such as a women's empowerment group and community organizing principles that support healthy lifestyles. The resident advocates serve all 212 households at Little Earth.
- Omniciye-through an exciting new partnership with Hennepin County, Little Earth is piloting a one-stop case management empowerment program for Little Earth households. The goal is to help Little Earth families move off of federal assistance and into secure employment. Rather than juggling multiple case workers, Little Earth adults now work with just one case manager who advocates for the entire family. Just half way through the first year of the program, Omniciye, 50 households, or almost 25% of all Little Earth households are now actively involved in this new self-sufficiency project-exceeding the required households for the first year in our Hennepin County contract.
- Food Shelf-to reduce the hunger experienced by many families at Little Earth, the Food Shelf distributes over 10,000 pounds of emergency food to over 250 families annually.
Little Earth directly operates all Family programs, employing 6.5 FTE staff. Hennepin County is the major funder for these programs.
